What is a Wire Rope Clamp?
A wire rope clamp, or a wire rope clip, is a product used to create load-bearing loops at the ends of cables or wire ropes or to connect two wire ropes through a loop connection. Wire rope clamps are widely used in construction because they can be installed directly on-site and provide 80-90% of the desired tensile strength, depending on the cable diameter.
Structure of Wire Rope Clamp
The construction consists of the body, the locking head, and the bolt.
The body is a steel block made of carbon steel with two circular holes. This component is used to connect the load-bearing part to the main body for clamping onto the cable.
The locking head is a U-shaped steel bar with threaded ends. This component is used to connect with two nuts for tightening.
Two nuts are used to securely tighten the body and lock the head while in use.
These clamps are typically made from high-strength, corrosion-resistant steel and are either zinc-coated or non-coated, depending on the product type.
Sizes vary from 3mm to 72mm in diameter.
The safe working load (SWL) is typically 2 times the working load limit (SWL*2), and the breaking load (MBL) is typically 5 times the SWL.
They are heat resistant up to 200 degrees Celsius.
